San Diego-based Mission Healthcare, one of California’s largest home health, hospice, and palliative care providers, announced the acquisition of Loma Linda University Medical Center Home Health Center. With this acquisition, Mission will now support current employees, patients and clinical rotations within the Loma Linda University School of Nursing. With a California footprint of more than 14 locations, they currently serve more than 2,200 patients daily with over 700 mission focused team members.

Atlanta-based Aveanna Healthcare, the nation’s preeminent provider of home health, hospice, private duty, medical supplies and respiratory therapy services announced the acquisition of Loma Linda University Medical Center Family Care Agency. Aveanna has over 200 locations in 25 states, serving over 50,000 children and adults daily.

The Braff Group originated the transaction and served as the exclusive mergers and acquisitions advisor to Loma Linda University Medical Center Home Health.

“We gave The Braff Group a challenging assignment to identify a worthy suitor for two critically important hospital-based health-in-home agencies and further tested them to complete the transaction in a very short amount of time.” States Lyndon Edwards, Senior Vice President, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Adult Hospital Services. “It became near impossible when we ended up with two separate buyers completing both transactions on the same day. Our internal staff, legal counsel and The Braff Group worked seamlessly together on a very successful outcome.

Loma Linda University Medical Center is part of Loma Linda University Health which treats more than 1.8 million patients through its outpatient services and over 53,000 patients through its inpatient services every year. Mission Health Care has been a partner with Loma Linda University Health for a number of years and will have the opportunity to support the skilled home health needs of patients through a number of local offices throughout Southern California.

“I am delighted to partner with Loma Linda University Health as we continue to provide best-in-class care to support patient needs,” said Mission Healthcare CEO Paul VerHoeve.  “Going forward, we will continue to develop strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations who share our values around patient care and employee satisfaction,” VerHoeve adds. This acquisition follows Mission’s most recent acquisitions in Northern California and expansion of hospice care to Orange County.

“Given Loma Linda’s long and deep commitment to its patients, employees, students and community, there was a very high bar set for a suitor and caretaker of the business going forward” states Mark Kulik, Managing Director for The Braff Group, that headed up the deal team. “We were very excited to engage and complete the transaction with two preeminent leaders serving the adult and pediatric marketplaces.”
